Tchaikovsky - Serenade for Strings

Tchaikovsky's Serenade for strings is  full of the unmistakable sweeping melodies tinged with melancholy so familiar from Tchaikovsky’s big symphonies. It includes one of his most gracious waltzes, a poignantly beautiful Elegy and a brilliant Finale using folk-like melodies to build to a jubilant conclusion.

Tchaikovsky's carol "The Crown of Roses" - often sung at Christmas and Easter - is the basis for Anton Arensky's romantic "Variations on a theme of Tchaikovsky".

Doreen Carwithen was the first female composer to compose for the Rank Film Organisation. Her Piano Concerto is one of her greatest pieces and we are delighted to welcome the highly regarded pianist Clare Hammond  to play music by a composer she has consistently championed
