PARIS MEETS VIENNA IN THIS SPARKLING CELEBRATION OF THE NEW YEAR!

 

One of Worthing Symphony Orchestra's seasonal highlights is the annual New Year Concert featuring the orchestra’s professional musicians in festive celebration.  What a great way to start the New Year – with a lively, upbeat, hand-clapping and foot-stomping programme of waltzes, polkas and marches galore!  This joyous concert is guaranteed to start 2020 with anticipation, hope and joy. You will undoubtedly leave the Assembly Hall with a spring in your step!

With Johann Strauss Favourites – Blue Danube, Die Fledermaus Overture, Thunder & Lightning alongside the high spirits of Paris – Offenbach’s Overture Orpheus in the Underworld (with its famous Can-Can) , the Barcarolle from Tales of Hoffmann and the foot tapping Mazurka from Delibes’s ballet Coppelia.

No one made dance music more fashionable than the Strauss family of composers and bandleaders. Starting in the early 19th century, their waltzes took Vienna by storm and

went on to conquer Europe, even into the era of gramophone records.
